Ophthalmologist Dr. Richard MultackDr. Richard Multack, has been practicing Ophthalmology for over 30 years, he currently provides medical Ophthalmology care to patients of all ages. Dr. Richard Multack brings over 30 years of medical and surgical experience practicing Ophthalmology in the Olympia Fields area. He earned his medical degree from Midwestern University and completed his residency at Midwestern University. He was the principal Ophthalmic Trauma Surgeon at the level one trauma center at Olympia Fields Hospital, teaching vision saving techniques to hundreds of physicians. He held the prestigious title of Chief of Ophthalmology and Department chair. He served as program director for over 25 years at Midwestern University’s Ophthalmology residency training program, where he currently holds the title Professor and Chair Emeritus of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Richard Multack has participated in several research projects at a university level and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. Currently he is the Section Editor of Cataract Surgery for a peer reviewed Ophthalmology Journal. Dr. Multack has been invited to lecture all over the country and has presented at the International Ophthalmology Trauma Symposiums in Europe on state of the art Surgical techniques.

Dr. Multack is an active member of The American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Osteopathic Association where he serves as a mentor for young physicians. Dr. Richard Multack has a special interest in diabetic eye care, and glaucoma management.

Dr. Sam Multack is originally from the Homewood-Flossmoor area. He attended Saint Xavier University on the south side of Chicago for his sam websiteundergraduate work and earned his medical degree at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Sam Multack then completed his internship at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, IL, where he was awarded “Intern of the year award”, a prestigious award selected by the medical staff and then went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at St. James Hospital where he served as Chief Resident. Through out his career, Dr. Multack has received multiple awards including, Patients Choice Awards, Most Compassionate Doctor Awards, On time Physician Awards, in 2016 he was recognized as one of the Top 5% of “Americas Most Honored Professionals“. Most recently, we are excited to announce in 2017, he was recognized as one of“Americas Most Honored Professionals Top 1% “.

Dr. Multack is an active member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Osteopathic Ophthalmologist Head and Neck Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Sam Multack has participated in several research projects at Universities and currently is involved in an advanced glaucoma clinical research trial. Dr. Multack has authored several Ophthalmology book chapters. Dr. Multack has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. He teaches ophthalmology to residents and medical students at Midwestern University and local hospitals.

In fact, Dr Multack, performed stitchless, patchless cataract surgery on his own mother, a retired nurse with high visual demands.

Dr. Multack treats all types of eye conditions, and has a special interest in cataract surgery, laser assisted cataract surgery, advanced technology intraocular lenses, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, diabetes. He has performed over 3500 cataract surgeries.

Dr. Multack is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.


Ophthalmologist Dr. Christine FunkeDr. Christine Funke M.D. is a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist who enjoys caring for a multitude of eye conditions including glaucoma, visually significant cataracts, diabetes, dry eye and routine eye care. She grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and studied biology at the University of Notre Dame. After her undergraduate education, she earned her medical degree at Rush Medical College and completed her residency in Cleveland, Ohio at Case Western Reserve University. During her tenure at Case Western, Dr. Funke co-founded the University Eye Hospitals Alumni Association, was the representative to the Mid-Year Forum for the Women in Ophthalmology Society, spoke at numerous conferences and was active on myriad of research projects and publications. She authored a chapter on alternative therapies for glaucoma treatment and has an interest in the effects of exercise and herbal therapy on eye pressure and vision. After completing her residency, she studied glaucoma at the prestigious University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. During her fellowship training, she enjoyed caring for patients with advanced, complex glaucoma. Dr. Funke is an active member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Glaucoma Society, Women in Ophthalmology Society, Chicago Women in Ophthalmology group and Chicago Glaucoma Society. “Furthering my education and keeping current on surgical techniques is extremely important as a practicing physician. Being a member of these societies helps to ensure you are continuing to grow your armamentarium to treat eye disease.”

Dr. Funke specializes in state of the art minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, trabeculotomies, tube implants, glaucoma laser surgery, complex cataract surgery, laser assisted cataract surgery and combined cataract/glaucoma surgery,

“I gravitated towards the subspecialty of glaucoma because it is a challenging disease that needs lifelong monitoring. This gives me the opportunity of create relationships with my patients as I care for their disease.”

Dr. Funke is Board Certified in Ophthalmology.



nellie photo 3Dr. Nellie Plummer completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then graduated magna cum laude from the prestigious Illinois College of Optometry, where she was a member of Tomb and Key honor society and Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. She completed an extensive medical Ophthalmology externship with Dr.  Richard Multack. Dr. Plummer has a special interest in the post operative management of cataract surgery patients, diabetes,  pediatric examinations,  treatment of ocular disease, including Dry Eye,  glaucoma,  along with specialty contact lens fittings. Dr Plummer is accepting new patients.



 Dr. Gary Yong studied psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry where he worked on researching new technology in the fight against macular degeneration. He completed an extensive medical Ophthalmology externship with Dr. Richard Multack at Advocate Medical Group,  where he received training in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases. He has spent his professional career serving the south suburbs with emphasis on post operative care, cataracts, dry eye, allergies, glaucoma and diabetes. Dr Yong is accepting new patients.





Board Certified Ophthalmologist Dr. Sheila ShifrinDr. Shifrin is a board certified Ophthalmologist specializing the field of Oculoplastic Surgery. After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, she earned a Masters in Vascular Biology from Georgetown University. Dr. Shifrin received her medical degree and completed her ophthalmology training at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a combined Oculoplastic and Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship in Detroit. Dr. Shifrin has been practicing for over five years at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and St. Joseph Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. She specializes in functional and cosmetic and eyelid and eyebrow surgery, eyelid skin cancer, thyroid eye disease, tearing disorders, facial trauma and blepharospasm.
